Dead Belles - This Machine's Electric Review

Hey guys!

Dead Belles are a South East London Trio consisting of Zakk Dodd, Tony Zemaitis and Dave Cowell. Since 2014 the band have been working on their debut EP, producing some stand-alone singles and gigging like mad. The latest single that Dead Belles have brought out is their debut called ‘This Machine’s Electric’ and I was lucky enough to listen it early via their private Soundcloud link, and it’s just been put publicly so here’s my review:

From the get-go, it’s evident that this track would not look out of place on Kerrang! This track is completely different from their preceding singles. Hit’s you with a nice choppy riff, adds in a bit of progressive drumming that builds anticipation then brings in a nice bit of authentic garage rock feedback before we sink into the sweet seduction of Zakk’s vocals. Zakk has a gorgeous tone in his voice that really compliments the style of music that the band produces; the edginess and grit in his voice makes you feel as though you’re really in someone’s garage at a rehearsal.

The chorus of the track is extraordinary; simplistic and punchy, yet entirely captivating. You can’t help but do a bit of solo head-banging in your bedroom! (Can’t just be me?). The drums become a lot more thunderous compared to being lighter in the verse and the guitar switches from its choppy riffs to a stunning rhythm section. Safe to say I’ve been singing it all day!

Both Tony and Dave are able to show off their talents even more so in the instrumental section where everything becomes organised chaos and it is beautiful. I’d like to see some gear getting smashed up in the video to this part please lads!

Despite their age, Dead Belles are producing some really mature, professional, quality tracks! If they continue as they are doing, and gigging like hell (a little birdy told me they’re doing a gig with Sisteray *cough Daniel Connelly cough*) the boys will do tremendous. Now, excuse me whilst I go and pester Zakk to get a UK tour established so that we can bring Dead Belles to Stoke for the evening!

Thanks for reading!
